Tension Hints

String tension can be quite a complicated subject, and you can often receive conflicting advice. This page is intended to help you obtain the correct tension.

Tension Hints notes
One String	All strings vary both in their initial tension and how much tension is lost in use. You need to find a suitable string in terms of performance and durability. Normally, it is better if you use the same string rather than trying different types.
Tension	It is essential that you can measure the tension of the strings in your racket. The Tensometer is the best method to do this. You can either use your own or find a local stringer who can offer this service to you.
Compare Tensions	Try using either a higher or lower tension than normal. This will allow you to find the best tension for your game. To do this you really need two identical rackets. You also need to use the same string. You are then only testing the difference in string tension.
Stringing	You need to use the correct tension and this requires accurate results from the stringing machine used. The best results are normally produced with an electrical tensioning system using a digital setting.
