Tennis Rackets Compared

 

Although there are many brands and models of rackets, most of them will belong to one of the following types.

  • Tournament
  • Mid Plus
  • Oversize
  • Wide Body

The following description provides a brief summary for each type of racket. There is a summary of typical measurements shown on a separate page.

Rackets Compared

Tournament

These rackets usually have a thinner frame profile combined with extra weight for improved control. The string area is normally smaller.

Mid Plus

This is a type of racket used by many club players. These rackets usually have a medium string area and a lower weight. They have a wider frame to generate more power.

Oversize

This racket has a larger string area to provide extra power. They are usually more forgiving, but provide less control. They have a lighter weight similar to a Mid Plus racket.

Wide Body

The extra stiff frame provides more power and is usually combined with a lower weight. There is normally less control with this type of racket, but they are used by many players.
